Psalms 102| Praise of Divine Goodness

<<A Prayer of the afflicted, when he is overwhelmed, and poureth out his complaint before the LORD.>> Hear my prayer, O LORD, and let my cry come unto thee. Hide not thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble; incline thine ear unto me: in the day when I call answer me speedily.

For my days are consumed like smoke, and my bones are burned as an hearth. My heart is smitten, and withered like grass; so that I forget to eat my bread.

By reason of the voice of my groaning my bones cleave to my skin. I am like a pelican of the wilderness:
I am like an owl of the desert. I watch, and am as a sparrow alone upon the house top. Mine enemies reproach me all the day; and they that are mad against me are sworn against me. For I have eaten ashes like bread, and mingled my drink with weeping, Because of thine indignation and thy wrath: for thou hast lifted me up, and cast me down. My days are like a shadow that declineth; and I am withered like grass. But thou, O LORD, shalt endure for ever; and thy remembrance unto all generations.

Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come. For thy servants take pleasure in her stones, and favour the dust thereof. So the heathen shall fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth thy glory. When the LORD shall build up Zion, he shall appear in his glory.

 He will regard the prayer of the destitute, and not despise their prayer. This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be created shall praise the LORD. For he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary; from heaven did the LORD behold the earth; To hear the groaning of the prisoner; to loose those that are appointed to death; To declare the name of the LORD in Zion, and his praise in Jerusalem;

When the people are gathered together, and the kingdoms, to serve the LORD. He weakened my strength in the way; he shortened my days. I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: thy years are throughout all generations. Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands. They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed: But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end. The children of thy servants shall continue, and their seed shall be established before thee. (Psalms 102:1-28 KJV)

Psalms Ninety - At Life's End

A Prayer of Moses the man of God.

Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God. You turn man to destruction; and say, Return, you children of men.

For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.

You carry them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which grow up. In the morning it flourish, and grow up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth.

For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled. Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance. For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.

The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath.

So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Return, O LORD, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants. O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil. Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children. And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.  (KJV)

Psalms for the Soul: Psalms Forty-Nine

To the chief Musician
A Psalm for the sons of Korah.

Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world both low and high, rich and poor, together. My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.

I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp. Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?  They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;

None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it cease for ever:) That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption. For he see that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.

Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names. Nevertheless man being in honor abide not: he is like the beasts that perish.

This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.  Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.

But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;

For when he die he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.  Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee, when you do well to thyself.

He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light. Man that is in honor, and understand not, is like the beasts that perish.
 (KJV)

Psalms - Twenty- One | Psalms for the Soul

In this Psalm, David sings of a King
 that is greater than he.
The king shall joy in your strength,

The king shall joy in your strength, O LORD; and in your salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!
You have given him his heart's desire, and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah.
For you prevent him with the blessings of goodness: you set a crown of pure gold on his head.

He asked life of you, and you gave it him, even length of days for ever and ever. His glory is great in your salvation: honor and majesty have you laid upon him. For you have made him most blessed for ever: You have made him exceeding glad with your countenance.

For the king trust in the LORD, and through the mercy of the most High he shall not be moved.
Thine hand shall find out all thine enemies: your right hand shall find out those that hate you.

You shall make them as a fiery oven in the time of your  anger: the LORD shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them.

Their fruit shall you destroy from the earth, and their seed from among the children of men.
For they intended evil against you: they imagined a mischievous device, which they are not able to perform.

Therefore shall you make them turn their back, when you shall make ready your arrows upon your strings against the face of them.  Be you exalted, LORD, in your own strength: so will we sing and praise your power.

Psalms Eighteen- I Love the LORD | Psalms for the Soul

To the chief Musician
 A Psalm of David

The servant of the LORD, who spoke to the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies  and from the hand of Saul: And he said I will love you, O LORD, my strength.

Psalms for the soul. blogspot.com

The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.  I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid.  The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me. In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.

Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth.  There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.

He bowed the heavens also, and came down: and darkness was under his feet. And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind.  He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion round about him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.

At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire.
The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice; hail stones and coals of fire.  Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them.

Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at your rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of your nostrils.  He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters. He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me.

They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay.  He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me. The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands has he recompensed me.

For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God.  For all his judgments were before me, and I did not put away his statutes from me.  I was also upright before him, and I kept myself from mine iniquity.  Therefore has the LORD recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight.

With the merciful you will show yourself merciful; with an upright man you will show yourself upright;  With the pure you will show yourself pure; and with the forward you will shew yourself  forward.  For you will save the afflicted people; but will bring down high looks.

For you will light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.  For by you I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall.  As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.  For who is God save the LORD? or who is a rock save our God?

It is God that gird me with strength, and make my way perfect.  He make my feet like hinds' feet, and set me upon my high places.  He teach my hands to war, so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.

you have also given me the shield of your salvation: and your right hand has held me up, and your gentleness has made me great.  You have enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip.

I have pursued mine enemies, and overtaken them: neither did I turn again till they were consumed.
I have wounded them that they were not able to rise: they are fallen under my feet.  For you have girded me with strength to the battle: you have subdued under me those that rose up against me.

You have also given me the necks of mine enemies; that I might destroy them that hate me.  They cried, but there was none to save them: even to the LORD, but he answered them not.  Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind: I did cast them out as the dirt in the streets.

You have delivered me from the strivings of the people; and you have made me the head of the heathen: a people whom I have not known shall serve me.  As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: the strangers shall submit themselves to me

The strangers shall fade away, and be afraid out of their close places.  The LORD lives; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted.  It is God that avenge me, and subdue the people under me.

He deliver me from mine enemies: yea, you lift me up above those that rise up against me: you have delivered me from the violent man.  Therefore will I give thanks to you, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises to your name.

Great deliverance give he to his king; and show mercy to his anointed, to David, and to his seed for evermore.
